These are a few of the pictures I took during the Seabirds & Whale Tales trip out of Plymouth Harbor to the waters off Cape Cod, on June 11th, 2006.

The replica of the Mayflower that's permanently docked in Plymouth Harbor

Cloudscape

For the most part the weather was excellent, with blue skies and a few high clouds


Birds

Sub-adult Northern Gannet flying near the boat

A flying Northern Gannet. The coloring indicates this is a sub-adult bird, probably in its third year.

Three Laughing Gulls skitter along the chum slick, plucking food from the water's surface.


Whales

Humpback fluking as it dives

A humpback whale churns the water with its flukes, trying to stun baitfish so it can eat them

Humpback with mouth gaping

Another hungry humpback surfaces with an enormous mouthfull of water and fish

Humpback and gull

Seconds later, a daring gull flies past the humpback as he slowly closes his mouth, straining the water through his huge baleen plates.
