Some pictures from the Brookline Bird Club's Pelagic Birding Trip, 11/13/2005

By Jon Woolf

These are a few of the pictures I took during the Brookline Bird Club's Pelagic Birding Trip, November 13th, 2005.

Northern Gannet flying

A Northern Gannet flying near the boat

Another Northern Gannet in flight

Northern Gannet flying - vertical

A vertically-oriented shot of a flying gannet.

Northern Gannet flying with a gull

A gannet and a gull captured in the same shot; amazingly, both are in decent focus

A Greater Shearwater swimming

The best of the many pictures I took of a swimming Greater Shearwater.

A shearwater banking steeply

A decent picture of a Greater Shearwater in flight.

Pomarine Jaeger

The piece de resistance: a Pomarine Jaeger caught in flight, fairly close to the boat. Not a great shot, but good enough that you can tell what it is.

Pomarine Jaeger

Finally, a picture of a jaeger (I think - it looks right) on the water. By sheer luck the sparkles of sunlight surrounded the bird without making my camera's lightmeter freak out, as it usually did when this close to the sunlight-stream.
